What to expect at WordCamp Manchester 2018

This year, we’re helping to organise and sponsor a WordPress conference, WordCamp Manchester. This year, we’re giving away tickets the conference to give away, so read on to find out more about the event and how you could win one of two tickets to the conference day.

What is WordCamp Manchester?

WordCamp Manchester is a two day event covering all things WordPress running in Manchester on 27th-28th October. You can attend one, or both days.

As with all WordCamps it is entirely run by volunteers and does not make a profit.

Conference Day

Venue: Manchester Metropolitan University

Saturday is the conference day, it’s £35 for a ticket, which includes refreshments, lunch and access to the after party. Doors open at 8:30am and talks start at 9am. The event is suitable for anyone who uses or is interested in using WordPress.

There are two tracks (rooms) with talks throughout the day. There are 8 sessions per track, 14 speakers in total, and two sessions reserved for lightning talks. People volunteer to do a 10 minute lightning talk on the day, you don’t know what you’ll see until you attend! You can see the schedule here.

It’s worth noting one of the most beneficial areas of conference day can be the networking or “hallway track” as it is often referred to. It’s a great way to get to know people and ask their advice. This is also where the sponsors area is, it’s generally a really good place to have a quiet chat with the sponsors and find out about their services.

Contributor Day

Venue: Ziferblat

Sunday is a contributor day, it’s free to attend, lunch is provided but you will need a ticket due to limited space at the venue. Doors open at 10m.

A contributor day gives you a chance to get involved making WordPress and the eco system around it. You don’t have to be a developer to take part, there are loads of ways to help – you write (or identify missing) documentation, answer questions on the support  forums, think of ways to promote WordPress, help with translations and more. You can find out more about the areas where you can contribute on the Make WordPress site. There will be plenty of experienced people on-hand t0 tell you how to get started.

Contributor days tend to run as follows, a welcome and introduction to what contributing is, and then splitting off in to smaller groups to learn more, get set up and get involved with contributing. Then there’s lunch, and the same again in the afternoon.

We are sponsoring, how about you too?

Delicious Media specialise in custom WordPress development. All sites and applications we build have WordPress at their heart. WordPress is open source and is built by the community around it. We are proud to be a part of this community. Alongside volunteering our time to help organise the event, we also sponsor the event. That is, we commit some money which goes towards the running costs of the conference and keep the ticket prices down.

Why do we sponsor WordCamp Manchester?

  • It’s our nearest WordCamp geographically, we want to support local events where we can.
  • We have built a business around WordPress, we want to give back to the community which has shared so much with us over the years.
  • It’s a great way to network and build connections, we’ve been involved in some great projects and collaborations as a result of meeting people at WordCamps.

There are still a few sponsor slots available. If you’re interested in sponsoring, find out more here.
