Modern websites rarely stand on their own, and often need to be linked with external services such as payment providers, social networks, accounts systems, cloud storage or search services.

APIs (“Application Programming Interfaces”) provide a way for developers to connect systems via a standard interface and automate transferring information between them. This may be as simple as sending contact details to a CRM when somebody fills in a contact form, or more complex automation.
